GY6 Performance Exhaust Tuning Tips

GY6 Exhaust Pipe Tuning

Tuning your exhaust is as critical as any adjustment made to your engine. It requires proper length, diameter, bends, and angles to accomplish proper back-pressure.

Scooter Exhaust 101:

Engines with CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission) require the proper back-pressure to maximize the engine's power output depending on the engine's displacement.

This Custom GY6 PowerPipe was handmade with love.

FACT: Using a "Free-Flow" or "Open" Pipe on an Engine with CVT will steal power and damage internal engine components.

This pipe in this picture is tuned specifically for my GY6 180cc. It has a riveted cylinder for easy access if any modification or adjustments are needed on future engine upgrades.

Professional Fabricators use an exhaust calculator to accurately adjust the properties of the pipe design. This requires great understanding of the software and the materials used in the build.

Here's a screenshot of an exhaust calculator:

CONSTRUCTION:

Form and Function:

You have to consider the construction of your exhaust. TIG welded metal is not exposed to prolonged high temperatures. Thus, not weakening the metal. And yeah, it looks a lot cleaner too.

The gauge and type of metal used is also important in the design of the exhaust. It allows proper heat dissipation and structural strength. On this Powerpipe, 16 gauge Stainless Steel was used.
